This version was created by the author to monitor a HP printer that did not have a monitor. The method it uses is to temporarily capture the spool file and record its size. This is then used in an algorithm to calculate the amount of ink used of each colour by set values.
There are log and data files used that can be inspected to fine tune the monitor for increased accuracy. This software is a viable option if it is decided to refill your own cartridges. This obviously can save considerable money.
The reason not to let the cartridge empty is to preserve the printhead whether in the cartridge or as in the case of Epson printers, in the printer itself.
